Geena Moodboard + Research + Class notes

In my moodboard i focused on how others have addressed homelessness in the path as well as some imagery that could be used, eg. connections, hands, diversity etc.
However this is heading too much towards the solution aspect of the brief which we will focus on in the second half of the semester.

Compilation of class notes, research and brainstorming:

 http://www.tuarangi.com/meaning-of-maori-symbols-and-designs/
where i got notes on maori symbolism and meaning, by using common symbolism we dont have to worry about the ethics of using designs which are attributed to certain iwi with their own specific meanings and importance

From now on we are all working on a shared google doc to put our research for the dossier which we will then refine into the content for our dossier and presentation We will take screenshots of this document as it develops.

Alex moodboard

Here are some existing examples of ways in which people have attempted to appeal to the public. 2 of these examples are very effective, because they incorporate some of the elements that the public associates with homelessness.

The 'Homeless Not Hopeless' examples is just a nice quote that is well designed, and should appeal to the public.

Brain storming strategies

As a group we are starting to understand that DCM have an issue of clarity and lack of understanding from the public perspective as to what they do as an organisation. Wellingtonians know that there is a homelessness issue but they don't know how they can help. How can we combat these issues in a way that reflects the image they're wanting to get across.

How can we extract design communication strategies that accentuate the Maori values of To Mai?

Connecting these Maori values of a welcoming environment with the aesthetic of their organization will be an important part in this project.

Questions we need to ask them going forward are:
-What message do they want to get across?
-How do they want to be represented?
-Do they have a reason for using an acronym as their name or not promoting their real name?
-Are we able to tell individual stories of the To Mai? what are the ethics issues involved in this?
-Do you feel that the name DCM still represents what the organisation is about?
-Are you looking for more ideas for fundraising?
-Are we able to take some photos of your work place, staff and the book fair?

Questions we need to ask ourselves:
-how can we target all demographics targeted in our promotion efforts? social media and other promotions.
-how can we channel the use of social media to benefit their organisation?
-how can we create a sense of community and Te Hapai (uplift) during this project for DCM?
